Sad but true, The Donald won the coin toss last night at would normally be two Presidential candidates behaving extraordinarily well, like Obama & McCain,
Obama & Romney and decades of nominees before that,
Perhaps for the first time ever at the Catholic NYC charitable event
a Presidential nominee's "punch lines" were not only routinely not laughed at or applauded,
but actually booed. Trump read from several type written pages and was the only one completely amused with his performance.
In conclusion to a routine rambling Trump attack speech peppered with over the line "jokes" , Mr Trump was not greeted by a standing ovation much less much applause.
Hillary on the other hand, had at least three speeches written;
- in case she went first and took the high road
- in case she went second and could still take the high road
- and the speech she delivered in response to Donald's cheap shots which referenced his comments while praising our American history, world standing and the charitable nature of the "good natured" roast for Catholic charities.
Whether or not her jokes fell flat or made the mark,
she commanded the podium with both grace and attempted mirth while honoring tradition, her fellow diners and the Al Smith traditions.
She won this public speaking 'event' hands down
over Mr. Trump
